This position is primarily responsible for designing, developing and supporting software products responsible for the operations and reliability of New York’s bulk power system. The developer may participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, software design, development, testing, deployment and post-production support.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Participate in the requirement specification process for new software functionality to ensure that definitions of new functionality are clearly defined and understood
- Communicate with customer groups and business analysts with respect to software capabilities, functionality, and design options
- Create software design specifications for functionality as defined in approved requirement specifications
- Ensure that designs are consistent with applicable NYISO software development standards and industry guidelines
- Participate in the creation and revision of NYISO software standards as required
- Perform software development activities in support of the NYISO mission and business objectives
- Create and/or revise software programs as defined in approved specifications and designs
- Participate in the testing and validation of new software to ensure software changes are reasonably free from defects
- Provide post-production application support as required
- Support responsibilities may include consultation, problem identification, data analysis, and / or emergency repairs. Requirements for support entail a rotating shift 24x7x365 coverage
Experience/Skills/Special Requirements:
- Strong relational data design background
- 5+ years of strong Oracle development experience with PL/SQL stores procedures, functions and packages
- Strong organizational, teamwork and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation OK
- Exposure to Java applications including J2EE, EJB’s, Struts, XML, JBoss and iBatis a plus
- Understanding of power system applications (SCADA, EMS, State Estimator, etc) desired but not necessary
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field is required.
