User Interface Software Developer

This position is primarily responsible for designing and developing user interfaces of products responsible for the operations and reliability of New York’s bulk power system.  The developer will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and post-production support.  

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop user interfaces for web-based and large-display (video wall) applications
  • Participate in the requirement specification process for new software functionality to ensure that definitions of new functionality are clearly defined and understood
  • Create software design specifications for functionality defined in approved requirement specifications
  • Communicate with customer groups and business analysts with respect to software capabilities, functionality and design options
  • Develop software following NYISO standards and processes and industry best-practices.
  • Participate in the testing and validation of new software to ensure software changes are reasonably defect free
  • Provide post-production application support as required
  • Support responsibilities may include consultation, problem identification, data analysis, and / or emergency repairs; requirements for support could entail a rotating 24x7x365 shift  coverage

Experience/Skills/Special Requirements:

  • Experience with graphic design tools, Adobe Illustrator preferred
  •  Web-Based development proficiency (HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
  • Experience with HMI design and usability testing preferred
  • 3+ years hands-on software development experience in a multi-dimensional team setting required for Software Developer position
  • Strong organizational, teamwork and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation
  • Understanding of power system applications (SCADA, EMS, State Estimator, etc…) desired but not necessary 

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field required 

Candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered

Position may be filled at various levels depending on candidate qualifications such as experience and technical skills
